· Date: 2010
· Genre: Drama
· Written by: Tom Lanoye
·Plot: “The Russians!” Is an adaptation of Chekhov’s theater texts “Platonov” (1881) and “Ivanov” (1887). In ¨The Russians!¨ Tom Lanoye adapts these two plays in one, where the two main characters meet. The position of Russia between Europe and Asia, creates tension since a very long time. There is a kind of national struggle that goes along with an unclear identity. Late 18th century, the aristocracy was aimed at the West. This play is about this contextual conflict
· Description of the setting: The concept is about two facts: one is ¨the window to Europe¨ through which a new world is aimed to be seen and reached, and the other one is presenting the personages as ¨modern nomads’. Throw the identity question that the Russians made about themselves, many people have the feeling of belonging nowhere. And the setting aims to represent an isolated ¨nomansland¨: between the public and the private space. A big architectural island-terrace that gets dirty by the unconscious misuse of his residents. The big window is a big cement sculpture that rotates slowly during the whole performance. This objects represents the instability of the whole situation, and separates the two worlds in conflictabout themselves, many people have the feeling of belonging nowhere.
